TESOL Fall Conference 2004
"Speak
up, Speak out, Speak Together" |
Maryland TESOL Fall Conference 2004 was held at the College
of Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday, November
6th. It was a beautiful day to meet with colleagues, share ideas,
and hear from the keynote speaker. We thank to all participants, presenters,
Dr. Judd, exhibitors, the conference committee members, and College of
Notre Dame of Maryland for making our conference successful.
This year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Elliot
Judd,
President-Elect of TESOL, Inc., spoke on "Comparing
TESOL to Other Professions: Where are We and Where do We Need to Go?" He
described characteristics of a profession – including the
influence professionals have and with members and outsiders, as well
as the canon
of literature that professionals in a field are expected to know. Looking
at those traits, he discussed how TESOL, as a profession, compared.
Finally, based on this comparison, he offered suggestions on
how TESOL can strengthen itself as a profession.
